Having worked with SME businesses for the last 4 years, one of the most satisfying aspects is the immediate and tangible impact the marketing decisions can have on their business.
One of the frustrating aspects, however, is the fact that often good ideas can lose momentum and opportunities be missed because there is no ‘marketing infrastructure’ in place. Or to put it bluntly, with marketing an add-on to someone’s role (often the business owner) they often lack the time and know how to fully implement and capitalise on the marketing that they could be doing.
So do any of these situations sound familiar?
You’ve had brochures, leaflets or folders produced but they are languishing in the bottom of a cupboard or under someone’s desk?
You have a website but haven’t had chance to update it for the last few months / years
You are reacting to marketing opportunities as they come up (or you are approached by sales people) rather than planning ahead
You don’t have a clear idea of how much you should be spending
You haven’t pinned down where you should be investing your marketing spend to get the best return
You want to try new things such as social media or email but don’t know where to start
Your sales process is ad hoc and there is no set process or strategy
The list could go on ....
If you recognise some of these, don’t worry, you are not alone it is a real problem for most small businesses.
For many business processes, outsourcing is a good option whether IT, HR, payroll, Health & safety or bookkeeping. With marketing and graphic design it is relatively easy to get someone to produce you literature, websites and promotional material. The problem we are finding, however, is that this doesn’t solve the problems outlines above as marketing needs to be woven throughout the business and is not just another word for a pretty brochure or fancy website.
So how can Kinetic help?
You know your business, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you know how to market your business. We know how to market things, but will never know the ins and outs of your business and sector as well as you do. Our Marketing Mentoring programme puts these two elements together in a way that capitalises on your knowledge and our marketing expertise.
How does Marketing Mentoring work?
We will provide you with a marketing Mentor who will meet with you on a regular basis (usually for a minimum of a couple of hours a month) and discuss your marketing needs and activities. It is an opportunity to look at your business and how you are promoting it and also for you to bounce ideas off someone who can give constructive and pragmatic feedback.
We will look at future planning of activities in the short (3 months) and longer term.
We will put together a practical strategy and then (most importantly) ensure you are able to implement it.
Often setting up processes will be part of the scheme – how are you going to win new business, who will be doing it and is there a process in place?
By meeting regularly the momentum is kept going and projects don’t languish at the bottom of a ‘things to do list’. It also allows us to monitor the success of the activities you are doing and react to new opportunities or situations as they arise.
Your mentor will also act as a trainer and sounding board for your ideas so you can develop your understanding of marketing principals.
How much will it cost?
Our Marketing Mentoring programme is flexible and depends on your requirements. For some clients ongoing support is required as the fruits of our advice come to fruition. Other clients may only need a few sessions to help them with a specific challenge or project, or just to help them gain perspective on it all!
Our initial hour session is free where we will discuss your requirements and experiences and tell you about how we work.
